Overview:
Sometimes, workflows fail because a required file is missing. Instead of waiting for the file or restarting the workflow, you can use the Skip option in Amperity to continue processing. This allows the workflow to proceed while monitoring for any further issues.
This article provides step-by-step instructions to safely skip missing files and ensure workflow continuity.
When to Use This Guide
Use the Skip option when:
- A workflow fails due to a missing file (e.g., error message: “Missing expected file: [file path]”).
- The missing file is expected to be temporarily unavailable (e.g., during end-of-year data processes).
- You want to proceed with the workflow without waiting for the missing file.
Note: Skip should only be used if the missing file is optional for that run or can be processed later.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Open the Failed Workflow:
Log in to Amperity and navigate to the failed workflow run.
Locate the Failed Task:
Identify the task that failed due to the missing file. You will see an error message like:
“Missing expected file: ***file path***”
Open Resolution Options:
Click Show resolution next to the failed task to view available options.
Select Skip:
Choose the Skip option for the missing file. This allows the workflow to continue without that specific file.
Confirm & Resume:
Confirm your choice. The workflow will automatically resume from the skipped task.
Best Practices:
Skipping a file only affects that specific file; the rest of the workflow continues as normal.
Monitor the workflow after skipping to ensure it completes successfully.
Example Scenario:
If a workflow fails because a specific data extract is not yet available (e.g., during end-of-year processes), using Skip allows the workflow to proceed without that file.
