Resolving “No Active Version” Errors for Passthrough Databases in Amperity

Overview

When querying a Passthrough database in Amperity, you may see an error similar to:

Cannot run query with no active version

This article explains why this error occurs and how to resolve it.

Why This Error Happens

Passthrough databases in Amperity are often configured to run manually by default.

If a Passthrough database has not been refreshed for a long time:

  • It may no longer have an active version

  • Queries against that database will fail

  • The data may also be outdated

This behavior is expected and does not indicate a system issue.

Solution 1: Manually Run the Passthrough Database

Running the database creates a new active version and resolves the error.

Steps:

  1. Go to Customer 360

  2. Open Databases

  3. Select the Passthrough database

  4. Click Run Database

Once the run completes, retry your query.

Solution 2: Enable Automatic Refresh (Optional)

If you query Passthrough data regularly, you can configure it to refresh automatically.

Steps:

  1. Go to Customer 360

  2. Open the Passthrough database

  3. Click Edit

  4. Under Refresh Settings, change Manual to Automatic

  5. Save your changes

This keeps the database up to date and prevents future “no active version” errors.

Best Practices

  • Use manual refresh for occasional or ad-hoc analysis

  • Use automatic refresh for frequently queried Passthrough data

  • Periodically check run history if queries fail unexpectedly

  • Consider moving frequently used tables into a production database if daily access is required

Summary

The “no active version” error occurs when a Passthrough database hasn’t been refreshed recently.
Running the database once creates a new active version, and enabling automatic refresh can prevent the issue going forward.
